Sage 200 on Microsoft Azure – A Full Cloud Solution

October 8, 2021

The way we work has changed dramatically over the years, with remote working on the rise and an increased need for businesses to access their data, at any time and from anywhere, in order to remain competitive in a fierce global arena.

This increasingly flexible way of working has also accelerated in light of the coronavirus pandemic, with many businesses forced to facilitate employees working remotely at home. Employee’s can’t carry out their roles without access to business systems, so many employers were forced to take swift action in tooling up their workforce in their own homes.

The need for far more flexibility by businesses prompted Sage, one of world’s largest providers of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software, to explore ways to offer Sage 200 Professional as a cloud-based ERP system.

Historically, Sage 200 Professional had been an on-premise business solution that is cloud-connected, offering some (but not all) of the benefits cloud-based software has to offer. Recently however, Sage has partnered with Microsoft Azure to host Sage 200 Professional on Microsoft’s industry-leading Azure cloud infrastructure, offering Sage 200 Professional customers to carry out all of their operations at any time, from anywhere and on any device.

What is Microsoft Azure?

Microsoft Azure is a cloud-computing platform made up of over 200 cloud services and products. It offers businesses a way to run applications across multiple clouds, on-premise and at the edge, creating a seamless hybrid solution. Users can securely store data, run third-party applications, create virtual machines (VMs), host independent software vendors (ISVs) and process high-performance computing tasks at lightning fast speed.

In essence, Microsoft Azure allows businesses to turn their on-premises business solutions into cloud-based business solutions, with all the flexibility and security that cloud-based technology offers. It allows businesses to access, store and transfer data, and carry out core business processes within their ERP hosted in the cloud.

Microsoft Azure has been described as having “limitless potential” and “unlimited possibilities”. It is extremely flexible, with computing resources increased or decreased as and when required, which also means it’s massively economical, as you only pay for the resource used.

It is also exceptionally reliable, with a service level agreement of 99.95% uptime and round the clock 24 hour support. Microsoft Azure also supports almost every language, operating system (OS), tool or framework, and stores data in geo-synchronous data centers, making it a truly global platform.
